It is well built, works okay, but not as effective as I hoped. Best if the soil is damp. In my opinion the spikes seem too small to be really effective. I found I was putting pressure on it and once the spikes were all the way in I would push the handle back and forth to try to make the holes bigger.
Works well for small areas. Happy with it.

I bought this mainly for a few compacted spots in my backyard. After watering the lawn first, the spikes went in much easier than I expected. Simple tool, but it does the job.
I really didn't want to rent a big aerator for my little lawn. This was much more practical. Took a little effort but I was able to work the whole problem area in one afternoon.
Assembly was straightforward and only took me a few minutes. The handle feels comfortable and the tool seems pretty solid once everything is tightened down.
Tried it first when the ground was really dry and it took quite a bit of pressure. Used it again the day after watering and it worked much better.
I tried the spike shoes before this and never liked walking around in them. This gives me much better control over where I'm aerating and feels more effective.
We only have a small patch of grass behind the house, so buying or renting a machine didn't make sense. This is perfect for doing a section at a time.
Nothing complicated about it. Step down, pull it out and move to the next spot. Definitely easier when the soil has some moisture in it.
The steel parts feel sturdier than I expected for a manual lawn tool. I've used it several times now and everything is still tight.
We have a couple areas where water tends to sit on top instead of soaking in. I worked those spots with this after a good watering and it opened the soil up nicely.
I don't use this on my entire lawn. I use it around the compacted areas near the walkway and where everyone cuts across the grass. For that it's excellent.
It's manual, so obviously you're going to get a little exercise. On damp soil it penetrates pretty well. Very dry ground is another story.
